(BOM – BOM Setup – BOM Defaults)
Carefully consider the following options and make the appropriate settings before actually entering any BOMs.
Screen Details
BOM Revisions
Each BOM is assigned to a “current revision”, which represents the latest engineering specifications for the manufactured item. Revisions can be used two ways. If you don’t track revisions, you can maintain a single revision against which all future engineering changes are applied. If you wish to track the engineering history of an item, you can create a new revision each time a major set of engineering changes is made.
Default Name
Each new BOM must be assigned to a Current Revision name upon creation. Enter a name in this field that is assigned by default during BOM creation, at which time it can be accepted or overridden. You can type in a name or use the lookup to select a name from the Revision Names table. Ideas for a default name include ‘REVISION-1’, ‘REVISION-A’, ‘DEFAULT’, etc.
BOM Routing
Sequence Numbering
This option is only visible on older systems where old style routing sequence numbering is being used. This setting enables you to convert to new style sequence numbering.
Old Style (Seq-Stage)
With old style numbering, the routing Sequence field is alphanumeric. The program assigns consecutive numbers by default, each followed by a dash, beginning with ’01-’, ’02-’, ’03-’, etc. If the sequence originated from a Sequence Template or work center Process, the template or process ID is appended following the dash.
New Style (010, 020) - Recommended
New style numbering is numeric only and each routing Sequence is numbered by default in increments of 10, beginning with ‘010’, ‘020’, ‘030’, etc.
Changing Existing Routing Sequences
Your existing routing sequences do not get automatically renumbered when you change this setting from old style to new style numbering. You can, however, change any existing routing by going to the Bills of Material – Routing tab and clicking the Resequence button, which renumbers the routing sequences in increments of 10.
