DBA Help

In this task you will specify your default Revision Name and optionally set up a Revision Names table.  You must have a default Revision Name that will be used any time a new BOM is created.

DBA Key Concepts

There is only a single active revision for any manufactured item in the system.

MRP will always use the current active revision when generating Jobs.   Revisions are not meant to represent different configurations of an item.  Different variations of items should have different part numbers and BOMs.

Revision status is a linear progression

The revision in DBA is meant to have a linear progression from pending, to active to archived.    You can work on new changes in a pending revision.   When it is ready to go into production you will change the status of your pending revision to active and the old active revision will get changed to archived.

Perform a cost rollup after your change to a new active revision

If there are significant changes involved when you change to a new active revision you should perform a BOM Cost Rollup afterward.  Cost Rollups will only be performed against the current active revision of a BOM.

Common Question

How does DBA handle Engineering Change Order (ECO) management?

DBA includes the following features that can be incorporated into your ECO management procedures.

Revision Control

Separate BOM specifications are stored against current, pending, and archived revisions so that you can plan and track significant product changes by revision.  You can use a pending revision to plan for the next product version without affecting the current production version.  Unlimited notes can be entered against each revision for documentation purposes.  See chapter 11, Revisions, for details.

Activity Notes

Activity notes can be entered against BOM parents to establish reminder dates for future events such as a scheduled revision change.  To enter an activity note, go to the Stock Items screen and click the Note button.  When you click New in the Activity Notes screen, the Item ID is inserted into the activity note Reference field.

Linked Documents

You can attach multiple documents to any item, including engineering diagrams and specifications.  Engineering drawings can be coordinated to correspond with progressive BOM revisions.  Drawings associated with the current revision can be flagged for job linking, while drawings for pending and archived revisions can remain attached for reference, but not flagged for job linking.  Consider using a drawing naming convention that coordinates drawing numbers with revision names.  For details see chapter 12, Attaching Documents and Web Links.
